E China port shifts coal transport from road to rail xinde marine news 2019-05-22 15:04

The first batch of 30 standard railway containers loaded with coal departed from Zhoushan port in Ningbo city of Zhejiang province in eastern China at 14:00 pm May 20, marking the city's shifting of coal transport from road to rail in line with the government's call to improve air quality.

The railway containers will head to Gaobu county, Shaoxing city in the north central part of the province. By integrating waterway with rail container transport, end-users could expect to save huge logistics cost.

A train comprising 108 standard 35-tonne containers could transport 3,480 tonnes of coal, equaling a reduction of 400 trucks which emit large volumes of pollutants into the air.

Door-to-door shipment would be realized for coal customers in western Zhejiang and Jiangxi province, helping win the blue-sky battle, said one official with Zhoushan port authority.
