China utilizing Beidou for container port automation Global Times 2021-01-19 11:25


China has for the first time begun utilizing Beidou technology to realized automation of the container port, boosting efficiency rates by 20 percent while slashing costs by 10 percent.
 
According to media reports, the first deployment Beidou in container port took place on Sunday at the automation demonstration zone at Tianjin Port in North China's Tianjin municipality. 
 
The transportation system in China has been widely integrated into the Beidou system technology. As of now more than 6.98 million vehicles on the road are equipped with Beidou system. More than 1,300 public service providers have been installed with Beidou system.
 
The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System - or BDS - is China's largest space-based system and one of four global navigation networks, alongside the US' GPS, Russia's GLONASS and the European Union's Galileo.
 
It provides global users with basic navigation, global short message communication, and international search and rescue services. At present, the system's covers more than 200 countries and regions, with more than 100 million users and 200 million daily services. 
 
The BDS system has been operating for around 26 years since it was first came online in 1994.
