RMB Settlement Milestone! Seaspan Signs New Order for 6 x 13,600 TEU Container Ships! xinde marine news Chen Yang 2024-10-21 13:52

On October 18, 2024, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and Seaspan Corporation signed a major contract for six 13,600 TEU container ships. This marks Hudong-Zhonghua's third large order this year, bringing the total to 15 vessels. What’s truly groundbreaking about this deal? It’s the first order settled in RMB (Chinese Yuan), a significant step towards the internationalization of China's currency.

This milestone not only showcases Hudong-Zhonghua's strength in the global container ship market but also highlights a shift in global maritime finance. By adopting RMB settlement, the company mitigates exchange risks, enhances profitability, and opens doors for global shipowners like Seaspan to lower financing costs and improve trade efficiency.

These 13,600 TEU ships, fully designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, feature the latest in green technology, equipped for low energy consumption, high speed, and the potential for future green fuel modifications. Delivery is expected between 2026-2028.

Hudong-Zhonghua continues to lead in the construction of large, eco-friendly, high-value vessels with production lines scheduled until 2030 and beyond.

Stay tuned for more updates on this innovative partnership and the future of sustainable maritime development!
