Landmark Bunkering Operation Advances Sustainable Shipping in Hong Kong Chimbusco Pan Nation 2025-05-12 08:57

Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical Co Ltd (CPN), in collaboration with Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd (OOCL), completed Hong Kong’s first B30 marine biofuel bunkering operation on May 7, 2025, supplying ISCC-EU Certified B30 marine biofuel to a containership operated by OOCL. This milestone followed the IMO MEPC 83 approval, which permits conventional bunker tankers to carry biofuel blends up to 30%. The B30 blend, comprising 30% biodiesel, further reduced carbon emissions compared to B24 biofuel, advancing sustainable maritime operations.

This operation marks OOCL’s first B30 biofuel bunkering operation in Hong Kong, advancing their decarbonisation strategy. It also underscores CPN’s commitment to leading the adoption of sustainable marine fuels. Authorised by the IMO’s updated regulations, CPN’s B30 marine biofuel met stringent sulphur standards and supported global decarbonisation goals, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a hub for sustainable bunkering.

CPN remains dedicated to expanding marine biofuel availability and collaborating with industry partners to achieve the IMO’s net-zero target. This operation solidifies CPN’s mission to drive sustainable energy solutions in the maritime sector.Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical Co Ltd (CPN), in collaboration with Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd (OOCL), completed Hong Kong’s first B30 marine biofuel bunkering operation on May 7, 2025, supplying ISCC-EU Certified B30 marine biofuel to a containership operated by OOCL.
